SPED Middle School Teacher Assistant

Description
The Special Education (SPED) Teacher Assistant (Paraprofessional) provides
instructional and behavioral support to students with special needs under the direction
of a certified Special Education Teacher. The paraprofessional works in a variety of
settings, including self-contained classrooms, resource rooms, and inclusive/general
education classrooms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Support the classroom teacher(s) in implementing instructional lessons,
accommodations, and behavior plans tailored to meet students' Individualized
Education Programs (IEPs).
● Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, classroom activities, and
educational resources.
● Provide one-on-one and small-group instruction as directed by the teacher.
● Support students with completing assignments, projects, and classroom tasks.
● Monitor and support students’ behavior in a variety of settings including the
classroom, cafeteria, playground, special classes, bus, and other areas on
campus.
● Supervise students during lunch, recess, transitions, field trips, and school
events.
● Maintain accurate records and logs (e.g., service logs, behavior tracking,
attendance).
● Perform clerical duties including filing, copying, and organizing materials for the
teacher.
● Support students with health and self-care needs such as toileting, feeding,
diapering, lifting, positioning, and mobility assistance.
● Serve as a bus monitor as needed to ensure safe transport of special education
students to and from school.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher and/or Special
Education Director.

Requirements
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or higher preferred.
● Must meet state and federal requirements for Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals.
● Experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
● Ability to follow directions, work collaboratively, and maintain confidentiality.
● Physically able to perform lifting and other physical tasks as required.
